For over twenty years, Mark Stone has led the professional percussion group Biakuye. In Akan languages of West Africa, biakuye means unity. Biakuye’s energetic performances bring together a wide range of African and Caribbean music and dance. In 2008, the group toured South Korea at the invitation of legendary salmunori drummer Choi Jong Sil performing at the Sacheon International Percussion Festival and the Pyeongtaek Super Percussion Festival. Named after the famous Irish castle, the Kalamazoo band Blarney Castle has been making a splash in Southwest Michigan since their origin in early 2015. Comprised of six music students from Western Michigan University, Blarney Castle combines the technicality of Western classicism with the rich folk music heritages of Ireland and Scotland and a progressive energy that appeals to audiences of all ages. Their first album, “To a City, Fair,” was released on April 5, 2016.
