Michigan Button Society Fall Show
History. Art. Fashion. Geography. How can clothing buttons stimulate research in any of these fields? History: What kinds of buttons were used first? Who wore buttons, How could a button signify your status or career? Art: Jewelers created some of the most beautiful buttons with silver, gold, and precious stones. Artists were engaged in designing the molds used to make early glass buttons. Skilled workers created dies for the many stamped metal buttons. Jewelers created some of the most beautiful buttons with silver, gold, and precious stones. Fashion: Buttons have been important in fashion design for many years. Geography: Czechoslovakia and other central European countries lead the way in glass button manufacturing. Some uniform buttons were created along America’s east coast and pearl buttons were manufactured in Iowa and Michigan. Buttons come from all around the world and reflect many cultures and materials.
A group of people dedicated to researching and classifying old clothing buttons is the Michigan Button Society. We would like to introduce you to some of our favorites at the society’s upcoming Fall Button Show to be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023. The event will be at the Chelsea Village Conference Center next door to the Chelsea Comfort Inn 1645 Commerce Park Drive. Saturday showroom hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2023, showroom hours are 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend this FREE event. Come and see the exhibits and what our dealers offer.
There are clubs in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Traverse City, Lapeer, and Port Austin, and a group that travels to points in Michigan and Northern Indiana.
