Thanks to a generous grant from the Chelsea Community Foundation and the collaboration of five local organizations, those facing memory loss are finding renewed joy and pleasure in rediscovering the music that they have enjoyed throughout their lives. The Music and Memory program helps provide patients with iPods personalized with music playlists just for them.

Whether you are a teenager, a senior citizen, or in between, we are looking for volunteers to help support this program. Volunteers are needed for two main areas:

  1. Technology support to help patients and caregivers create and maintain personalized music playlists on iPods.
  2. Personal engagement with patients and caregivers as they experience the joy of music. This will include one on one interaction with patients experiencing varying degrees of dementia. A background check may be required.

Individuals are encouraged to volunteer for either or both categories and training will be provided. Volunteers may participate at any of the three Chelsea Music and Memory sites: Silver Maples, Chelsea Senior Center, and United Methodist Retirement Communities. For more information, please contact
