Plaid Melon Cafe: New breakfast and lunch option in downtown Chelsea

Plaid Melon Cafe offers casual dining and an eclectic menu seven days a week

New to downtown Chelsea, Plaid Melon Cafe offers an eclectic mix of breakfast and lunch selections, as well as ice cream and an assortment of coffee drinks, in a casual dining atmosphere.

Owner, Dave Gallinat comes from a long line of small business owners. He has spent most of his professional career in commercial kitchens across Michigan and also has extensive experience in restaurant supply and inventory management. His menu is inspired by his love of simple dishes and quality ingredients.

“Plaid Melon Cafe is a reflection on how I like to cook and eat,” says Gallinat. “Comfortable food, but with a couple of twists thrown in. Where else can you get duck hash, or noodle mess? Comfortable but unique, that is what we are shooting for.”

House specialties include the already popular noodle mess, which changes daily, as well as classically prepared omelettes, daily soups, and a selection of potato hash. The regular menu features baked goods from Stone Hearth Bakery in Brooklyn and soda from Detroit’s own Faygo and Towne Club. The selection of fresh-roasted coffee comes from Coffee Express in Plymouth. Dessert is encouraged; choices include house-made bread pudding and ice cream from Independent Dairy in Monroe.

A just-for-kids menu is also available, or young customers can order child portions of most menu items and specials. The full menu, as well as daily and weekly specials, is available at plaidmelon.com.

Open seven days a week, Plaid Melon Cafe is located in the Clocktower Complex at 312 North Main Street, Chelsea, MI 48118. Ample off-street parking is available in the Clocktower Complex lot with entrances from Main Street and Dexter-Chelsea Road.

The Cafe serves the full menu Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
