Chelsea Community Center Days offers family friendly fun during school break

If you need an excuse to get out of the house and stay active after the holidays, come check out Chelsea Community Center Days at the Washington Street Education Center on Wednesday, January 4th and Thursday, January 5th from 1-5 p.m. each day. For only $1 per person per day, you can enjoy a variety of activities including line dancing, yoga, cooking demo, art projects, and family friendly movies. The Chelsea District Library will offer hands-on MakerSpace projects and a 3D printer, and the Chelsea Robotics Club will do various demonstrations of their robots. Of course, if parents need a space for their kids to release some energy, there will be open gym time for drop-in basketball, dodge ball, batting cages, and a scooter or tricycle track. A complete listing of specific times and programs is available on the Chelsea Community Center Facebook page.

This January event is part of a broader effort to develop a community center in Chelsea. This past year, the Exploratory Committee hired Wade Trim to conduct a needs assessment which showed that 89.9% of respondents were “very” or “somewhat” supportive of a community center with 83.2% willing to pay user fees. Currently, the school district is conducting a facility study with Kingscott to evaluate all the school properties, including the Washington Street Education Center, the proposed site of a Chelsea Community Center. The committee continues to have dialogue with key community partners to make the concept of a Chelsea Community Center a reality.
